Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend a monthly MOMS Club meeting that featured a guest speaker from Poudre School District’s Early Childhood Program. While I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about local resources for parents and children, I had no idea that the district offered so many early learning services. Based on the abundance of questions asked by the group, it was clear that I was not the only one unaware of these options. With that realization, I walked out of the meeting determined to share the information. Thus, today’s Resource Spotlight is intended to introduce you to the services of the Early Childhood Program:
Services for Prenatal Families, Babies, and Toddlers (prenatal to age 3)
Families who are eligible for Early Head Start can receive home visits, parent education and support, screenings, socialization events, and more. Eligibility is based on family needs and income.
Services for Preschool Children (ages 3 to 5)
Preschool programs are offered at various elementary schools throughout the district. For families that meet certain eligibility requirements (such as income based or for special education services), there may be no cost for these preschools. For families that do not meet the eligibility requirements, a limited number of tuition based slots are available. Children must be 3 years old by September 15th of the year of enrollment.
Services for All Families
Any families in the district have access to student screening and evaluations, including development, hearing, and vision screening. Other services include parenting classes, community referrals, General Education Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL).

Growing Up Fort Collins will periodically feature a local resource for parents, children, and families. If you have found a specific organization to be of benefit to your family, and would like to see them featured here, please email your request to christi@GrowingUpFortCollins.com.
- For additional preschool options throughout the region, the Early Childhood Council of Larimer County is an excellent resource!
- On February 1st, 2014, The Mothers’ Center is hosting the annual Preschool & Kids’ Activities Fair. This is an excellent opportunity to explore many preschool options at once!
