Well, hello there Growing Up Fort Collins readers. This is Kristin Mastre, the founder of our network of writers. You might know me over on Feasting Fort Collins and Fresh Air Fort Collins, the two sites I write within our team of community writers. Growing Up Fort Collins has been a little MIA recently, hasn’t it? Well, let me explain. We’ve been going through some growing pains.
Our amazing Growing Up Fort Collins writer, June, moved to Chicago to continue her work on her PhD this past fall. I couldn’t be more thrilled for her to level up and have the opportunity to live her passion and pursue this direction in her professional life. She has worked so hard to get to where she is now.
But, what a loss for Fort Collins, for sure! As she moved, I decided to put the search for a new writer on the backburner. We were heading into the holidays, a time when we’re all preoccupied with family and responsibilities, and a time that wasn’t exactly the best for the hiring process.
Once we moved into the New Year, I had put some feelers out in the community and a few people were interested in taking over Growing Up. However, this is a really tough gig. It’s not simply writing. There’s social media management, a marketing mindset, and ad sales hustle responsibilities that go along with it too. Most people just expected to write and thought, “oh, that’s too much work.” And it is. It takes a rockstar to be successful here. June made it look exceptionally easy because she is one.
During this time our network of writers was evolving in the process. We got a spiffy new logo look on each site, then as of last week, we ditched our business as The Scoop Blog Network and sprouted into Experince Fort Collins – expanding our marketing services, adding a podcast to our network, and narrowing our focus into helping Fort Collins live a bucket list life right here in our own community. That includes families, too!
In our Experience Fort Collins podcast, I’ll be talking about the best aspects of living here, the worst, and bucket list perceptions from people who are making their mark in our community. I’ll talk with people related to food, outdoors, history, family life, gardening and agriculture, history, arts and entertainment, and cannabis – all of the lifestyle things that our network covers and what makes Fort Collins the community it is.
Not only that, I’ve been working on Choose Your Own Fort Collins over the last year. This is a Choose Your Own Adventure series to help our readers experience the things we write about first-hand in a new and exciting way. Our launch is creeping closer, hopefully at the end of April if everything goes as planned. Our adventure series is designed to be mysterious and full of surprises, so you’re not going to get a detailed explanation of what it entails. If you sign up for the newsletter on the landing page, you’ll get an exclusive invite to our launch party and go on an adventure for free.
So, instead of going through the time-consuming cycle of hiring and training a new writer, who may or may not last longer than three months until we find the right person who will stick with it, which also holds me back from progressing on launching Choose Your Own Fort Collins, I decided that I’d take over Growing Up Fort Collins myself until – if and when – we ever found another qualified person to fill this role. I’ll have some informational content on here again, I’ll be interviewing people about family life in Fort Collins in our new podcast, and I’ll be getting the Parent’s Planner going out too (it might be monthly instead of weekly, though. We’ll see how it works out).
But either way, Growing Up Fort Collins is in that goofy-grin stage after we’ve lost a few front teeth. It’s cute and we’ll probably have a whistle when we talk as the grown up teeth come in.
But regardless, my kids and I are looking forward to helping you and your families Experience Fort Collins to the fullest this year!
